From Auckland

Take the Twin Coast Highway 12, 27km to Matakohe. Take Matakohe West road for 2km then turn left onto Tinopai Road. Travel 9.86 kms to Harbour View Cottages on right-hand side, just across a large concrete strip on the road.

From Dargaville
Take SH 12 to Matakohe. Approx. 35 mins from Dargaville. Take Matakohe West road for 2 km then turn left onto Tinopai Road. Travel 9.86 kms to Harbour View Cottages on right-hand side, just across a large concrete strip on the road.

From Whangarei

Tourist Activities

Nestled amongst the upper reaches of the historic Kaipara Harbour, Matakohe offers 'Real New Zealand Heritage' at its best. The focal point is the internationally acclaimed Kauri Museum, depicting the mighty kauri tree and faithfully charting the history of the people, area and community. To the west of Matakohe is the Kaipara Harbour, where many renowned shipwrecks and the historic Kaipara Lighthouse can be found. To the north are the beautiful Kai Iwi Lakes, Trounson Kauri Park Mainland Island and the Waipoua Kauri Forest.
